Processing of Fennovoima Oy’s Decision-in-Principle application in 2010
On 14 January 2009, Fennovoima Oy submitted an application to the Government for a Decision-in-Principle (DiP) on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Pyhäjoki, Ruotsinpyhtää or Simo. On 11 December 2009, Fennovoima amended its DiP application by excluding Ruotsinpyhtää from the site alternatives. The Government made a Decision-in-Principle on the application on 6 May 2010. The Parliament ratified the Decision-in-Principle on 1 July 2010.
As the coordinating authority, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment (MEAE) provided a statement on 20 February 2009, requiring Fennovoima to submit additional information on the environmental impact of its nuclear power project. The additional information was required under section 24(1) of the Nuclear Energy Decree (161/1988). Fennovoima provided the information on 9 April 2009 and 30 October 2009.
