Monitoring supports decision-making

For effective integration policy to be properly planned and monitored it is necessary to produce sufficiently comprehensive information on the different aspects of integration on a regular basis. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment produces information on unemployment among immigrants and on the participation of immigrants in active labour market measures.

The Ministry also gathers information from various sources for a countrywide monitoring system covering integration, in its different aspects, and ethnic relations. The monitoring system is made up of theme-based indicators based on data from registers and surveys, and these indicators are updated and reported on annually.

The elements of the monitoring system are as follows, using the EU and OECD frameworks:

  • employment
  • education and training
  • health and well-being
  • housing
  • participation and
  • two-way integration (incl. ethnic relations).

The monitoring system is being developed. The monitoring system covering different integration aspects and ethnic relations produces an annual report and also an extensive review of the entire government term. The latest such review was published at the beginning of 2020.
