Regional aid

Labour and other resources are unevenly distributed, and, for this reason, there are differences in business opportunities between regions. Accessibility and distances to markets also vary by region. The Government may designate the least developed areas as support areas.

Enterprises may receive higher aid for investments in the support areas than elsewhere in Finland. Small and medium-sized enterprises that are located in sparsely populated areas can also be granted aid for long distance transport. The aid is provided by the ELY Centres.
