Transport sector growth programme
The global transport sector market is huge, amounting to trillions of euros. The revolution in technologies has turned the sector into a testing ground for new service models, where there are excellent opportunities for Finnish companies to create and test new service models and progress to international markets.
The aim of the transport sector growth programme is to support the development of expertise in the sector and to promote international awareness of Finland’s transport sector. The programme will turn the opportunities presented by digitalisation into something tangible for the sector and help it establish its position in the growing global market.
The transport sector growth programme will promote achievement of the Government Programme’s goals for building a growth environment for digital business and creating new businesses and jobs. The growth programme’s emphasis is on developing business-driven ecosystems and customer-oriented services.
The parties involved in the growth programme preparations were the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Cities of Espoo, Helsinki, Oulu, Tampere, Vantaa and Turku, Tekes – the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation, Finnish Innovation Fund Sitra, Smart & Clean Foundation, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd and ITS Finland.
The preparatory work was open to all actors and stakeholders in the sector. The third workshop, public procurement, was held on 26 October 2017, and the fourth workshop, growth programme roadmap, was held on 9 November 2017.
