Minister of Employment Satonen: Chairpersons Murto and Rytkönen to explore ways to launch talks between social partners on Finnish labour market model

On 22 March 2024, Minister of Employment Arto Satonen invited Katarina Murto, Chair of the Trade Union of Education (OAJ) and Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals (JUKO), and Millariikka Rytkönen, Chair of the Union of Health and Social Care Professionals (Tehy), to find a way to bring together all employer and employee organisations, that participated in the negotiations on Finland’s labour market model in autumn 2023, to agree on a sustainable labour market model.

State Secretary Mika Nykänen has reported the results of his review of the conditions for starting labour market model negotiations to both Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Minister of Employment Arto Satonen. According to the report, the organisations consider the preparation of a common agreement-based labour market model to be necessary. Some of the organisations, however, have preconditions for starting negotiations.

As assigned by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Mika Nykänen, State Secretary to the Minister of Employment, has met with the main labour market organisations and reviewed the conditions for starting bipartite negotiations on the Finnish labour market model. The organisations consider the preparation of a common agreement-based labour market model to be necessary. Some of the organisations, however, have preconditions for starting negotiations. State Secretary Nykänen has reported the results of his review to both Prime Minister Orpo and Minister of Employment Arto Satonen.
Government submits its proposed amendments to industrial peace legislation to Parliament

The Government proposes to increase fines for violating industrial peace, limit disproportionate solidarity action and restrict the length of political strikes. The reform would not restrict industrial action aimed at improving working conditions in one’s own sector.

The Government is to submit a proposal for amendments to industrial peace legislation on 29 February 2024. The reform will enhance the sanctions system for unlawful strikes, limit disproportionate solidarity action and restrict the length of political industrial action.
