The Government approved an amendment to the EU regional and structural policy programme Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021–2027 concerning the Just Transition Fund (JTF) and decided to submit it to the European Commission.

EU energy ministers will hold an informal meeting in Prague on 11−12 October 2022 to discuss the need and ways to reform the electricity market as well as emergency measures to curb high gas prices.

Commissioner Schmit met Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen in Helsinki. They discussed issues related to the rights and livelihood of workers as well as homelessness.

On 4 October, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment made the first energy investment aid decisions under Finland’s Recovery and Resilience Plan to promote clean energy solutions. Aid was granted to six projects totalling EUR 99.8 million.

Energy ministers from the EU Member States will convene for an extraordinary Energy Council meeting on Friday 30 September 2022. Their aim is to reach an agreement on a proposed EU regulation concerning an emergency intervention to address high energy prices and to mitigate their negative effects on consumers.
