Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn accompanies Team Finland visit to Republic of Korea and Japan

Minister of Economic Affairs Olli Rehn will visit Seoul and Tokyo with a Team Finland business delegation on 16-20 May 2016. In the visit to the Republic of Korea (16-17 May) the delegation will feature representatives from 32 companies in the fields of ICT, food and functional foods, and lifestyle and fashion.

Minister Rehn will meet Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning Choi Yanghee on 16 May. The subjects of these discussions will include an increase in commercial cooperation between the two countries in the future development of ICT and digitalisation, for instance concerning the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G technology and big data, and smart vehicles and intelligent transport.

On Monday, Minister Rehn will also meet Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul of the Republic of Korea. The discussions will focus on the general economic situation and trade relations between the two countries, including the promotion of tourism in connection with the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, the development of air traffic and Arctic issues.

On Tuesday 17 May, Minister Rehn will open the Finland Innovation Seminar, where the Korean audience will be given a wide-ranging presentation of Finnish innovation, a start-up ecosystem and digitalisation solutions using practical business examples. During the day, the Minister will also open two other similar seminars, one of which will focus on Finnish functional nutrition innovations and the other on Finnish fashion and lifestyle companies.

On Tuesday evening Minister Rehn will continue to Japan. The business delegation participating in the Tokyo visit (17-20 May) will include representatives from 31 companies in the fields of Arctic expertise, ICT, lifestyle and fashion.
