In 2020, the use of renewable energy in total energy consumption surpassed the use of fossil energy. The rapid increase in the price of emission allowances promotes investments in renewable energy and their use.

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment submits informed conclusion on EIA report of Loviisa nuclear power plant

On 14 January 2022, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment released its informed conclusion on the environmental impact assessment report of Fortum Power and Heat Oy’s nuclear power plant in Loviisa. In the conclusion, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, as the coordinating authority, states its view on the significant environmental impacts of the project. The conclusion is based on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report, statements and opinions issued, and the Ministry’s own evaluation.

New Board of Directors for Business Finland

On 30 December 2021, the Government appointed a Board for Business Finland for the term from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2023. Päivi Marttila, a board professional, will become Chairman and Petri Peltonen, Under-Secretary of State from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, will continue to serve as Vice-Chairman.

The European Commission has published the Single Market scoreboard that measures the implementation of the Single Market rules in the Union during 2020. The Single Market refers to the free movement of people, goods, services and capital in the EU. The Commission has extended the scope of the scoreboard to include three new policy areas: business environment for SMEs, greening of the industry, and market surveillance.
