Commission adopts Finland’s regional and structural policy programme for 2021–2027
The European Commission has approved the EU regional and structural policy programme, Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021–2027, and Finland’s partnership agreement among the first in the whole EU. The programme promotes the vitality, employment and wellbeing of the regions. The partnership agreement describes the strategic direction and mutual coordination of different funds.
Government allocates EUR 33 million for regional development and future structural change measures
The Government has granted regional councils, which serve as regional development authorities, a total of EUR 33 million for regional development and promotion of contractual cooperation between the central government and regions. The funding is also intended for measures that improve the resilience of regions in the changing operating environment and in anticipation of future structural changes.
Government support for abrupt structural change situations in Jämsä and Utsjoki
On 16 December 2021, the Government has granted EUR 4 million for the abrupt structural change situation in Jämsä and EUR 300,000 for the situation in Utsjoki. The funding will support the sustainable growth and vitality of the regions.
Raising the bar in urban policy – urban development measures and instruments need to remain separate
Urban development in Finland continues to inadequately address the differences between towns and cities, in comparison with other regions or municipalities. At the same time, the way cities as an object of policy are being developed is too fragmented and continues to focus on administrative sectors and disconnected policy instruments. These were the findings of an unofficial discussion document published on 3 September.
Call for funding for the development of tourism in the regions is now open
New funding is available for the promotion and recovery of the tourism industry and the development of tourism in the regions. The funding is open to regional tourism organisations and similar actors that support the activities of companies and develop the region’s tourism on a broad scale.
