Lintilä and other EU ministers’ joint article: Europe needs nuclear power

In a joint article published in several European newspapers on 11 October 2021, the ministers of 10 EU Member States write that nuclear power is part of the solution to reduce emissions and to strengthen Europe’s self-sufficiency in energy. According to the ministers, nuclear power must be included in the taxonomy for sustainable finance, which the European Commission is currently preparing.

Achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during this decade will require significant changes to the way the public and private sectors allocate their investments. Finland’s sustainable financing roadmap, which will be published on 24 September 2021, will provide guidelines for the allocation of funding solutions to sustainable investments that need to be increased during this decade.

In connection with its General Assembly, the UN will organise a High-level Dialogue on Energy in New York in September. This is the first time since 1981 that the UN addresses energy issue at this level. The aim of the meeting is to strengthen Member States’ efforts to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on energy in preparation for the COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow in November.

Finland joins coalition aiming to end export finance of fossil fuels

Finland joined the Export Finance for Future coalition (E3F) at its meeting on 24 November 2021. The E3F is part of the strategy work to combat global warming. It allocates funding to sustainable projects and defines the most suitable measures for phasing out export finance in projects that are not in line with sustainable development.
