The number of occupations suffering from labour shortage has risen to the pre-COVID level and the occupations in the social welfare and healthcare sector are still at the top of the list. New shortage occupations are occupations in the restaurant and construction sectors.

A new discretionary government grant will encourage municipalities to hire more social, health and education services experts at the Ohjaamo service points, where young people can seek help and guidance at a low threshold. The incentive model will strengthen the resources and multi-professional approach of the Ohjaamo service points, in accordance with the Government decision during the budget session in autumn 2020. The aim is for young people to receive more and better support for wellbeing, education and employment in one place.

 A glossary on integration, published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, harmonises the use of concepts related to integration, equality and discrimination. The new glossary emphasises equality and immigrants’ active role.  Instead of kotouttaminen, the glossary recommends the use of kotoutumisen edistäminen.
