Government allocates EUR 33 million for regional development and future structural change measures

The Government has granted regional councils, which serve as regional development authorities, a total of EUR 33 million for regional development and promotion of contractual cooperation between the central government and regions. The funding is also intended for measures that improve the resilience of regions in the changing operating environment and in anticipation of future structural changes.

Near-term expectations are positive across the country and demand for labour is high. However, the outlook in all regions is dampened by concerns over the availability of skilled labour.

On 21 October 2021, the Government approved the EU regional and structural policy programme, Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021−2027, and decided to submit it to the European Commission. The programme supports industrial, energy, climate, innovation, education and employment policies as well as the work against exclusion and poverty.

Government decides on the regional allocation of REACT-EU funding

On 29 April, the Government decided how to allocate the REACT-EU funding to regions. Close to EUR 255.4 million was allocated to the ongoing structural funds programme ‘Sustainable Growth and Jobs’ for 2014–2020. The REACT-EU funds will be used to help regions recover from the coronavirus pandemic.
