EU’s Energy Council meeting to extend emergency measures on energy

The EU Ministers responsible for energy issues will convene for the Energy Council meeting in Brussels on 19 December 2023. The meeting seeks a political agreement to extend three emergency Council regulations on energy by 12 months. Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen will represent Finland at the meeting.
Updating of sectoral low-carbon roadmaps begins

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has started to update the low-carbon roadmaps together with the sectors. During the previous government term, 13 sectors drew up roadmaps describing their paths towards a low-carbon economy. Industry-specific approach helps to ensure that the roadmaps are ones that companies in the sector can identify with and genuinely commit to.
Finland submits its draft update of the National Energy and Climate Plan to the Commission

Finland submitted its draft update of the integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) to the European Commission on 30 June 2023. The energy and climate policy targets of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government Programme have been incorporated into Finland’s plan.
Draft national programme on spent fuel and radioactive waste management and report on its environmental impacts out for comments

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, and the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority published a draft of the national programme for spent fuel and radioactive waste management on 5 August 2021. A report on the environmental impacts of the programme was released at the same time.
Minister Haatainen: Objectives of security of supply to be updated based on coronavirus crisis

The analysis by the National Emergency Supply Council on the impacts of the coronavirus crisis on security of supply and development needs has been completed. The report proposes updating the objectives of security of supply, clarifying the role of the National Emergency Supply Agency and developing cooperation between the public and private sectors.
