Rapporteur: Finances, staff skills and international competitiveness of aviation companies must be safeguarded

Travel restrictions imposed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic have plagued the aviation industry and Rapporteur Kari Savolainen has been seeking ways of ensuring its future sustainable growth. His initial recommendation is to safeguard the finances of industry enterprises and the skills of their staff, with longer term investment focusing on such areas as cost-effectiveness, sustainability and quality of service.

REACT-EU instrument to support regions affected by the coronavirus pandemic

The Finnish Government approved the content of REACT-EU funding on 25 February as part of the ongoing Sustainable growth and jobs structural funds programme. Allocation of recovery funds to regions will begin in spring 2021. This funding will particularly support SMEs from the perspective of digitalisation and a green economy.

Regions to receive over EUR 100 million for coronavirus recovery efforts

Finland's regions will be supported by more than 100 million euros to help their recovery efforts amid the coronavirus epidemic. The funding comes from Finland’s Structural Funds programme and the appropriations supporting sustainable growth and vitality in the regions and development projects for SMEs.

Minister of Economic Affairs Lintilä to visit the United States to discuss energy and bioeconomy

Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will visit the United States on 15–16 November. This is his first visit since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. During his visit, Minister Lintilä will discuss energy, bioeconomy and digitalisation with high-level representatives of the US administration and of the states. He will also meet Finnish companies operating in the United States, and speak at a bioeconomy conference.

Regional Ministers of the Nordic Council of Ministers: Multilocality to boost regional vitality

The regional ministers of the Nordic Council of Ministers discussed multilocality and green recovery at the hybrid meeting held in Helsinki on 16 September 2021. The ministers decided to launch a research project to examine the economic, social and environmental impacts of multilocality in different regions.
