Reforming regional government
The regional government reform and the health and social services reform together comprise one of the largest reform packages dealing with administrative structures and practices ever undertaken in Finland. The reforms will affect the work of hundreds of thousands of people and the services of every citizen in the country. The purpose of the regional government reform is to coordinate the regional State administration with the new county-level administration and to simplify the organisation of regional government. The reform of administrative structures is also being accompanied by reforms in practices and approaches.
Services and duties allocated to the counties from the administrative sector of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy will include employment and economic development services and business support services, which will be assembled into growth services, and various duties concerning regional development. The new counties will begin operating on 1 January 2020.
