5.5.2020 | Finland will make the Elements of AI online course available to EU citizens in 2020–2021. The objective is to train one per cent of EU citizens in the basics of artificial intelligence, thereby strengthening digital competence within the EU. 19.6.2019 | Licentiate of Science in Technology Nina Kopola has been appointed as the Director General of Business Finland starting on 1 September 2019. In 2011–2018 Kopola served as President and CEO of Suominen Corporation. Before that, she held various leading positions at Dynea in 2000–2011. The objective is to make use of the bioeconomy to create new products and services that support economic growth and employment while promoting the transition to a carbon neutral society. 5.10.2018 | Already 37 enterprises and other operators are committed to drawing up ethical principles for artificial intelligence (AI). The principles will define how AI is used in fair and trust-building ways. Both large and small Finnish enterprises, representing a variety of sectors, are participating along with public sector operators. 18.6.2020 | The impact of the coronavirus crisis on the Finnish labour market may turn out to be smaller than feared if Finland is spared a new wave of the epidemic and subsequent restrictions, and the global economy recovers. However, the number of unemployed jobseekers is projected to remain higher in the next few years than before the start of the crisis. 17.7.2020 | The German Presidency of the Council of the EU will organise an informal video conference of EU ministers responsible for employment and social affairs on 17 July 2020. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss various measures that support the post-COVID-19 recovery of working life. No decisions will be made at the informal meeting. 4.6.2020 | On 4 June 2020, the Government submitted a proposal for an act on local government trials on boosting employment. According to the proposal, certain tasks of the employment and economic development offices, which are state-run agencies, would be transferred to local governments for the duration of the trials. 29.3.2019 | The energy efficiency working group appointed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment in November 2018 submitted its interim report to the Ministry on 29 March 2019. The report provides a description of the progress made, and estimates of the preliminary results and future work. 4.9.2018 | Finland’s Artificial Intelligence Programme challenges enterprises to commit to the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). It encourages enterprises to draw up their own ethical principles for AI that would guide how AI is applied and developed in the enterprises in fair and trust-building ways. 12.4.2023 | At the end of 2023, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will publish its first Labour Force Barometer, which will contain data on the need for labour and skills by occupation and sector. Previously, information on labour needs has been published in the Occupational Barometer, which will now be renamed.
