Working group on essential work-related travel and other traffic appointed to assess the need for workers’ entry into country in the state of emergency - Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment

26.3.2020 | On 25 March 2020, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a joint ministerial working group to assess the need for entry into the country of employees working in essential sectors in the state of emergency caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

Employers permitted to temporarily derogate from working hours and annual holidays arrangements in critical functions of society - Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment

17.3.2020 | On 17 March 2020, the Government issued a decree under the Emergency Powers Act to allow employers to respond to personnel shortage caused by the virus epidemic in critical functions of society. The arrangements concern working hours and annual holidays as well as notice periods in case of employee resignation.

A new state-owned company to employ the most disadvantaged people with partial work ability - Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment

21.10.2021 | A state-owned special assignment company named Työkanava Ltd will be established in Finland. Its task is to promote the employment of people with partial work ability who are in the most difficult labour market position. The company would support their skills so that the people could find employment in the open labour market after working at Työkanava.

22.6.2021 | To boost the employment of persons with partial work capacity, the Government decided in its mid-term policy review session to set up a state-owned company with a special assignment. The company is tasked with recruiting such persons for longer-term employment relationships and providing them with support in carrying out their duties. Another objective is to promote the opportunities for employees to advance in their careers and take up employment with new employers.

9.2.2021 | At the request of Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen, Director General of Finnish Customs Hannu Mäkinen has formulated a proposal to improve the opportunities of people with partial work ability to find employment. Mäkinen proposes that Finland should take Sweden’s Samhall company as a model, but adapt it to the Finnish needs.

Preparation of legislative proposal on local bargaining continues - Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment

12.4.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has received 49 comments on the legislative proposals to promote local collective bargaining. The feedback received will now be analysed as part of further preparation. The draft proposal will also be sent to the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis for evaluation.

29.9.2020 | The task is to define the content of the model for employing people with partial work ability in Finland and how the operations are to be organised and funded. The aim is to improve the opportunities of people with partial work ability and other persons who are in a difficult position to find employment. Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen has appointed Director General of Finnish Customs Hannu Mäkinen to explore the matter.
