14.7.2021 | The European Commission's extensive legislative package (Fit for 55), published on 14 July 2021, aims for a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the EU from 1990 levels by 2030. The newly proposed legislative package provides the means to upgrade the current EU reduction target of 40% to the level proposed by the Commission in September 2020.

14.10.2020 | Finland is currently updating its Bioeconomy Strategy. The objective is to make use of the bioeconomy to create new products and services that support economic growth and employment while promoting the transition to a carbon neutral society. The Bioeconomy Advisory Panel, which met for the first time on 14 October 2020, will provide advice on the strategy.

8.12.2021 | On 8 December 2021, the Government’s Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided to support the proposal for an auction model that is to be applied to leasing public water areas governed by Metsähallitus to private companies for offshore wind power development and construction projects. The proposal aims to boost the market-driven development of offshore wind power.

8.12.2021 | In a report commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, likely future outlooks for regional development in Finland have been examined through four different scenarios. According to these scenarios which extend to 2040, regional development may be globally selective, concentrated on raw materials and tourism, patchwork-like or balanced.

6.4.2020 | On 25 March, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a group of authorities tasked with assessing the entry of workers under exceptional circumstances while Finland’s borders are mainly closed. Based on the authorities’ assessment, the Ministry has prepared a list of tasks that are essential from the point of view of security of supply or critical for the operations of the sector in question, and for which workers must be granted entry into the country.

14.4.2020 | Finland has submitted a long-term strategy to the European Commission describing emission reduction scenarios and related impact assessments until 2050. The scenarios are based on the goal of achieving carbon neutrality in 2035.

24.11.2016 | The Government approved the national energy and climate strategy to 2030 on 24 November 2016. The strategy will be submitted as a Government Report to the Parliament, where discussion on it is to be started on 30 November.

1.9.2017 | Minister of Employment Jari Lindström will make a Team Finland visit to Mozambique and Zambia on 3–8 September 2017. A business delegation assembled by Finpro and made up of, among others, forest and mining sector companies and cleantech sector companies will also participate in the visit, The aim of the visit is to promote the export of Finnish companies on emerging markets in Africa and to open doors for new partnerships.

28.9.2017 | The Finnish Government has appointed a working group to create a roadmap for the reform of corporate subsidies. The work will be based on earlier studies on corporate subsidies, including tax credits, carried out by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy as well as on other available research data. 15.9.2017 | On 18–19 September Finland will present new bioeconomy and clean energy solutions to a group of visitors coming from Brussels, with representatives from the Parliament, Commission and the Members States. The visit is organised by the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU in Brussels together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

13.10.2018 | Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will head a Team Finland visit to Vietnam on 14–19 October 2018 to promote exports and internationalisation of Finnish companies. The business delegation accompanying the Minister has 24 representatives especially from the sectors of energy, water and waste management technology, bioeconomy and digital technology.
