Minister Rydman to attend a European space summit in Spain
Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman will attend the Space Summit 2023 in Spain’s Seville on 6–7 November 2023. The event will bring together European space operators. An informal meeting of the EU Competitiveness Council, an informal ministerial meeting of the European Space Agency (ESA) and an informal joint meeting of the EU and ESA will be held in connection with the summit.
The discussions at Space Summit will focus on guidelines for improving the resilience and competitiveness of European space systems and for ensuring technological self-sufficiency and sustainable use of space.
“The role of the space sector has increased and this growth will continue in the next few years. Finland has significant expertise and innovation activities in this sector. It is important to us that the EU’s space policy enables SMEs and growth companies to participate in the development of the sector,” says Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman.
Finland emphasises that a common European space policy will support cooperation between different operators in the space sector to strengthen the European competitiveness of the sector in the global operating environment. The reform of the national space strategy will also take into account the potential offered by ESA programmes as well as EU programmes and other international frameworks.
The European Union has recognised the importance of space activities for the functioning, security and defence of society. European space systems and services will be developed in close cooperation with the EU, ESA and their Member States.
