Regular electricity production at Olkiluoto 3 plant unit started in 2023

In January 2002, the government made a favourable decision-in-principle on Teollisuuden Voima Oyj’s (TVO) Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant project, which was ratified by the Finnish parliament in May 2002. The government granted a construction licence for the project in 2005. After the construction of the plant progressed, the government granted the operating licence in March 2019, which will be valid until the end of 2038.

Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority issued a fuelling licence in March 2021. The facility proceeded to the implementation phase once the reactor had been fuelled. The commercial production of electricity started in 2023.

The nuclear power plant unit is located in Olkiluoto, Eurajoki, and will have a capacity of approximately 1,600 MW.
