Minister Rydman welcomes the change of ownership of Helsinki shipyard
Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman is pleased that the change of ownership of Helsinki shipyard has been completed, with ownership transferred to Canada’s Davie Shipbuilding from the Russian Algador Holdings.
Rydman participated in the change of ownership by negotiating with Quebec’s Minister of Economy, Innovation and Energy Pierre Fitzgibbon. The province of Quebec funded the change of ownership with a significant contribution.
“I am convinced that the future of the shipyard and the entire Finnish marine industry looks brighter thanks to the new owner. Davie has been approved as a partner in Canada’s national shipbuilding strategy, which involves the construction of seven icebreakers for the state. It is also very positive for the Finnish state that the change of ownership took place on market terms,” Rydman says.
“I welcome the continued operation of Helsinki shipyard as it helps keep the economic structure of my home city broad. The shipyard has a long history and the best expertise in icebreakers and other ice-going vessels in the world,” Rydman adds.
Davie Shipbuilding specialises in heavy icebreakers. It also builds cruise ships and vessels for authorities.
