Minister Lintilä: Brist på arbetskraft får inte hindra turistbranschen från att växa

År 2017 ökade antalet turistföretag med cirka 400, företagens omsättning översteg 6 miljoner euro och sysselsättningen ökade med fler än 1 000 årsverken. Den rekordstora ökningen av antalet turister syns också i behoven att utveckla turistindustrin.

Tillgången på kompetent arbetskraft, digitaliseringen, tillgängligheten, hållbarheten och klimatförändringen samt delnings- och plattformsekonomin måste tas i beaktande. Uppgifterna ovan framgår av den branschrapport om turismen som publicerades den 17 januari 2019. I rapporten granskas nuläget och framtidsutsikterna för hotell-, restaurang- och programservicen.

Året 2017 präglades av en kraftig ökning i antalet turister. År 2018 nådde man inte upp till samma tillväxtsiffror, men antalet turister fortsatte att öka. Utländska turisters övernattningar beräknas öka med cirka två procentenheter fram till år 2023. 

Turistbranschen som tillväxtbransch har stött på många utvecklingsutmaningar. Den bristande tillgången på kompetent arbetskraft utgör redan i dagsläget ställvis ett hinder för tillväxt och utveckling av turistföretag.

— Den bristande tillgången på kompetent arbetskraft får inte bli ett hinder för tillväxten. Arbets- och näringsministeriet startade ett särskilt program, Turismdeal, för att förbättra tillgången på arbetskraft i branschen. Liknande satsningar krävs ovillkorligen också av den kommande regeringen, konstaterar näringsminister Mika Lintilä.

År 2017 omsatte hotell-, restaurang- och programserviceföretagen 9,7 miljarder euro, och omsättningen har haft en tendens att öka under flera år. Branscherna sysselsatte personal som motsvarade fler än 72 000 årsverken. År 2015 har det dessutom bedömts att enbart hotell- och restaurangbranschen sysselsatte genom bemanningsföretag personal motsvarande cirka 6 000 årsverken. År 2017 fanns det närmare 19 000 företag inom hotell-, restaurang- och programservicen. Restaurangbranschen hade den största omsättningen (55 %). Också största delen av personalen (70 %) fanns inom restaurangbranschen.

Om man ser till antalet företag är de flesta turistföretagen koncentrerade till Nyland, Birkaland och Egentliga Finland. I de ovan nämnda landskapen samt i Lappland och Norra Österbotten är antalet sysselsatta inom turismen och omsättningen för turismen större än i det övriga landet.

Företagens lönsamhet och avkastning på kapital ganska dålig

Omsättningen inom turismens kärnkluster visar en ökning, men mätt med rörelseresultatet före avskrivningar är lönsamheten fortfarande ganska dålig. Avkastningen på kapital är också ganska dålig. Däremot har självförsörjningsgraden hos turistföretagen ökat litet.

— För att det ska bli tillväxt krävs investeringar inom de olika delområdena av turismen. Förutom på ökning av inkvarteringskapaciteten måste man dessutom satsa på innehållet i turismprodukterna och på utveckling av företagens affärsverksamhet, konstaterar branschchef Susanna Jänkälä, NTM-centralen i Norra Österbotten, som sammanställt rapporten.

Ansvarstagande verksamhet ger konkurrensfördel

Ansvarstagande affärsverksamhet med hög grad av digitalisering har kommit att utgöra en klar konkurrensfördel inom turistbranschen. Bakom ansvarstagandet ligger ofta företagets egna värderingar och egen ideologi, men i en ökande grad också ett tryck och krav från kundernas och samarbetsparternas håll. Genom hållbara val kan företagen göra kostnadsbesparingar och därigenom öka verksamhetens lönsamhet. Om ett företag handlar på ett ansvarstagande sätt, lockar det också arbetstagare: ett företag som har samma hållbara värderingar som sina anställda är en attraktiv arbetsgivare inom en bransch där det råder brist på arbetskraft.

Digitaliseringens inverkan på turistföretagens affärsverksamhet ökar snabbt. Genom relativt enkla tekniska lösningar kan företagen lättare än tidigare få internationell synlighet för sina tjänster. Å andra sidan ökar konkurrensen om internationella kunder hela tiden, vilket innebär att man i betydligt högre grad än nuförtiden måste satsa på synligheten. Digitaliseringen kan innebära betydande förbättringar också i företagens interna produktionsprocess och i produktionsstyrningen mellan olika verksamheter. Om man vill ta vara på de möjligheter som digitaliseringen erbjuder, krävs det en stark satsning snabbt.
