Under the proposal, large companies would be required to produce their first sustainability report for the year 2027 and publish it in spring 2028. The Government’s aim is to reduce the administrative burden of Finnish companies to the extent permitted by EU legislation.

The EU’s energy ministers will hold an informal meeting of ministers in Copenhagen on 4–5 September 2025. The key issues on the agenda include the future of Europe’s energy architecture after 2030, extensive deployment of clean technologies, and development of energy infrastructure. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

Finland will take part in the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM16) and Mission Innovation (MI-10) meetings held in Busan, South Korea, on 25–27 August 2025. Finland is represented by Mika Nykänen, State Secretary to Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala, supported by a small expert delegation.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment proposes appropriations of approximately EUR 3.49 billion for its administrative branch for 2026. This is EUR 179 million less than in the 2025 Budget.

Finland is known as a country of responsible use of nuclear energy. Safety comes always first. Responsibility includes ensuring the funds required for nuclear waste management and for the decommissioning of facilities. An extensive legislative reform is, however, required to streamline regulation and licensing. The reform process is also driven by the need to take account of new technologies and the profitability challenges of the sector. The draft proposal for the new legislation is undergoing a round for comments until 25 August 2025.
