Working group to examine legislation on plants handling dangerous chemicals and explosives important for national defence

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed a working group of public officials to assess legislation concerning plants handling dangerous chemicals and explosives which are important for national defence. Due to the changed security environment in Finland, the processing of licence applications, disclosure obligations and data processing of these plants will be evaluated.

Legislative amendments enter into force: higher threshold for applying the Co-operation Act and shorter duration of change negotiations

The amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (Co-operation Act) will enter into force on 1 July 2025. The aim is to reduce the administrative burden caused by the current legislation, especially in companies with fewer than 50 employees. Another objective is to speed up the ability of all companies to react to changes in the operating environment.

Revised Nuclear Energy Act is sent out for comments

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has sent out for comments the draft of the new Nuclear Energy Act. Primarily, the new act aims to ensure that the use of nuclear energy is in line with the overall good of society, that the operations are safe and that nuclear waste generated in Finland is handled properly.

Consultation round begins: Draft decree on offshore wind power in the exclusive economic zone

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has sent out for comments a draft government decree on offshore wind power in the exclusive economic zone. Comments and opinions on the proposal should primarily be submitted under the ‘request for comments’ published on the lausuntopalvelu.fi website by 18 August 2025.

EU energy ministers to discuss import bans on Russian energy

The EU’s energy ministers will meet in Luxembourg on 16 June 2025 to discuss the roadmap towards ending Russian energy imports and to approve conclusions on strengthening the energy union by reinforcing energy security. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.
