The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a working group on 17 August 2026 to prepare a fixed-term experiment on a special economic zone in eastern Finland. The working group will prepare the necessary framework and draft legislation for the experiment.
On 4 August 2026, the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority issued a favourable statement to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment on the operating licence application of Posiva concerning the encapsulation plant and disposal facility for spent nuclear fuel in Eurajoki.
On 15 July 2026, the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment issued a competent authority statement on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme of Kuopion Energia Oy’s project to build a small modular reactor (SMR) plant for district heating production.
