Antti Neimala appointed as Director General at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment
On 5 July 2018, the Finnish Government appointed Antti Neimala, Master of Laws, as Director General of the Employment and Well-functioning Markets Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment for a period of 13 August 2018 to 12 August 2023.
Neimala has broad-based expertise in industrial and labour policy, an excellent understanding of work in organisations and the government, the relevant policy and legislative processes and different administrative branches and networks. He has long international experience and some 20 years of experience of management positions.
Neimala works currently as Director General of the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority and as Consumer Ombudsman. He has held the positions of Director and Vice Managing Director at the Federation of Finnish Enterprises in 2001–2004, 2007–2009 and 2012–2017. He has also worked as EU representative of the Federation of Finnish Enterprises, project manager at the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Special Adviser at the Prime Minister’s Office. Neimala graduated Master of Laws in 1989 and was awarded the honorary title of Master of Laws with court training in 1990.
The Director General functions as the Head of Department. He leads, supervises and develops the operations of his Department and ensures that its duties are managed successfully and in ways that promote collaboration.
The Employment and Well-functioning Markets Department is responsible for labour policy, functioning of the labour and commodity markets and related industrial policy issues, and the development of regulations governing the operating environment for businesses. Its basic task is to develop labour and industrial policy into an integrated package that promotes growth and employment. It has also duties concerning the integration of immigrants.
