Climate Fund’s Neste shares returned to direct state ownership

Government decision
On 21 September 2023, the Government authorised the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment to acquire Climate Fund’s (Ilmastorahasto Oy) 8.31 per cent shareholding in Neste Corporation to return the shares to direct state ownership. A total of 63,894,123 shares will be transferred to the state at the same value as they were originally transferred to the company without monetary consideration.

A seminar on the Finnish labour market model will be held in Helsinki on 8 November 2023. The seminar will discuss the development needs of Finland’s labour market negotiation system and the different options for implementing the policies outlined in the Government Programme. After the seminar, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will launch an open consultation round on the topic.

Changes to the integration services reform in 2025 – Government proposal circulated for comments

The Government aims to strengthen general government finances, increase immigrants’ own responsibility for integration and improve the position of immigrant mothers. The Government’s proposed amendments to the Integration Act, which will enter into force in 2025, have now been circulated for comments until 23 October 2023.

Finland and US to discuss science and technology cooperation in Helsinki

Finland and the United States will convene in Helsinki on 19–20 September 2023 for a Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology Cooperation. The Committee monitors the Science and Technology Agreement (STA) previously signed by Finland and the US. The meeting will discuss R&D cooperation in a number of fields, including climate, energy, health, biotechnology, space, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security, 6G, and other emerging and disruptive technologies.

The European Commission’s Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson, will visit Finland on 18–19 September 2023. During her visit, Simson will meet Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment Kai Mykkänen, Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Anders Adlercreutz and members of Parliament’s Environment and Commerce Committees.
