Minister of Employment Lindström to visit the United Kingdom
Minister of Employment Jari Lindström will visit the United Kingdom on 30-31 January 2019. The themes of the visit include measures to promote the employment of special groups, integration of immigrants, and Finland’s forthcoming Presidency of the EU.
During his visit, Minister Lindström will meet Amber Rudd, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions. The ministers will discuss effective measures to promote the employment of persons with partial work capacity.
“We know that the labour market in Finland does not provide adequate support for the participation of people with partial work capacity. We need their input in the labour market, so it will be interesting to compare notes with my British colleague,” says Minister of Employment Jari Lindström.
Employment will be an important viewpoint at the executive level meeting at the Home Office, which will focus on the integration of refugees and asylum seekers.
“We want efficient integration measures that help new arrivals to find quick paths to employment. Hopefully we will find good examples and experiences,” Lindström continues.
Sustainable future of the labour market and the Universal Credit model on the agenda
During his visit, Minister Lindström will have the opportunity to become better acquainted with the extensive action plan of the British Government to renew its labour market (The Good Work Plan). In the meeting with Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Finland’s forthcoming Presidency of the EU will also be discussed.
Britain’s experiences of the Universal Credit social security reform have attracted a great deal of interest in Finland. Universal Credit will be one of the topics discussed at Minister of Employment Lindström’s lunch meeting with Robert Joyce, Deputy Director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
During his visit, Minister Lindström will also meet Finnish students and representatives of Finnish companies in the UK.
