Processing of personal data

The licensing of nuclear facilities consists of successive steps, each of which can be commented on and participated in.

In this context, environmental impact assessments refer to procedures pursuant to the Act on the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure, in which the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment is the coordinating authority or a competent authority.

In the context of environmental impact assessments, we collect personal data on persons who have submitted statements or opinions related to projects to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. Personal data are processed to identify persons who have submitted an opinion or a statement to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

The data are provided in statements submitted to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

The government resolution procedure covers all nuclear facilities deemed to be of considerable general significance referred to in the Nuclear Energy Act, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment is the competent authority. The government resolution procedure includes a general hearing during which opinions can be provided on the planned project.

The building permit procedure concerns all nuclear facilities referred to in the Nuclear Energy Act for which a government resolution has been issued. A hearing procedure is organised in connection with the processing of building permit applications.

The operating licence procedure concerns all nuclear facilities referred to in the Nuclear Energy Act for which a building permit has been issued. A hearing procedure is organised in connection with the processing of operating licence applications.

The decommissioning licence procedure concerns all nuclear facilities referred to in the Nuclear Energy Act for which an operating licence has been issued. A hearing procedure is organised in connection with the processing of decommissioning licence applications.

What data do we collect on you regarding the hearing of nuclear facilities?

The personal data file for the procedures concerning the environmental impact assessment, government resolutions, building permits, operating licences and decommissioning of nuclear facilities include data concerning private persons, as well as organisational data such as name, employer organisation and contact information.

The personal data stored in connection with stakeholder engagement are retained for as long as is required for attending to our tasks. The retention periods are based on the government’s information management plan.

What is our data processing based on?

We process your personal data to comply with our statutory obligation or to perform a task concerning the public interest.

The tasks of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment are laid down in the following, among others:

Disclosure and transfer of personal data

At times, we outsource our technical systems to external service providers for quality improvement. Provided that the requirements of the Data Protection Regulation are met, a service provider may also operate outside the EU.

We may disclose personal data, upon request, in accordance with the Act on the Openness of Government Activities. 

We do not disclose your data for direct marketing or market and opinion polls.
