Competency Path service supports education and career choices
The new digital Competency Path service provides support for making education and career choices, helping people maintain and develop their skills throughout their careers.
The service is intended for people at different stages of life. Young people making their first choices, jobseekers, students and those already in working life can map their interests and skills and find suitable employment and education opportunities. Through Competency Path, individuals can also find other guidance and counselling services to support their reflection on career and education options.
Lifelong guidance is especially important at a time when working life and competence needs are changing rapidly, and career paths are often diverse. Competency Path also supports professionals who provide career guidance in different sectors by offering up-to-date high-quality information about the labour market and education, diverse methods for career guidance, and support for developing their own guidance expertise.
- Over a million decisions are made in Finland related to choices on education and careers. The Competency Path service was introduced to support people when they are making these important choices in their lives, says the Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz.
Education providers, labour market actors and representatives of different government branches benefit from the information compiled in Competency Path from various data sources concerning skills, labour markets and education, which can be used to plan education and service provision, for example.
Competency Path was developed as part of the Digital Service Package for Continuous Learning project between 2021 and 2025. The project was funded by the European Commission (Sustainable Growth Programme for Finland, Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF)). The overall project was led by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.
