Energy efficiency

The primary objective of increasing energy efficiency is the cost-effective reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. In addition to mitigating climate change, saving energy is also vital for other reasons, such as securing energy supply, reducing the need for imported energy, reducing energy costs, ensuring resource efficiency, and promoting other environmental aspects like environmental protection and air pollution control. Saving energy also contributes to increasing the share of renewable energy.

Cogeneration of heat and electricity, voluntary energy efficiency agreements and systematic energy audits are good examples of successful energy saving measures implemented in Finland.

In international comparison, Finland ranks among the top with respect to energy saving and energy efficiency. Cost-effective solutions and voluntary energy efficiency agreement scheme have helped us to achieve a leading position.
