Reform to increase overall responsibility of municipalities for integration

The comprehensive reform of the Integration Act (KOTO24) aims to speed up the integration and employment of immigrants and to strengthen their knowledge of Finnish society. The reform is related to the T24 reform where employment and economic development services are transferred from the central government to municipalities.

The structures and responsibilities for organising employment services will be reformed at the turn of the year. As a result of the reform, the responsibility for organising employment and integration services will be transferred to municipalities and employment areas formed by municipalities. The role of the central government will focus on guidance, development and the nationwide functioning of the employment service system.

EIA report consultation on the lifetime extension of OL1 and OL2 plant units begins

Consultation has begun on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) report concerning the lifetime extension and increased thermal power of the Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO). Comments on the report will be accepted at the Lausuntopalvelu.fi service from 17 December 2024 to 14 February 2025. In addition, a hearing event open to the public will be held in Eurajoki on 6 February 2025

EU energy ministers to discuss geothermal energy and future of energy policy on 16 December

The EU Ministers responsible for energy issues will convene in Brussels on 16 December 2024. They will discuss the Council conclusions on the promotion of geothermal energy and the future of EU’s energy policy. Finland will be represented by Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen.

Finland a leading country in PIAAC adult population survey

Key information processing skills needed by Finland’s adult population (aged 16 to 65) in different areas of life were assessed in the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). The survey focused on literacy, numeracy and adaptive problem-solving skills. By international standards, Finland ranked at the top in literacy and numeracy skills.
