While learning new things is still supported at workplaces, the amount of training offered by employers has decreased clearly in recent years.

Consultation round on amending unemployment security sanctions begins

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will organise a consultation round on amending the unemployment security sanctions from 9 May to 19 June 2025. The aim is to clarify and simplify the sanctions and to make the job search of jobseekers and their participation in employment-promoting services more efficient. Another objective is to prevent prolonged unemployment and to shorten periods of unemployment.

Government submits to Parliament legislation to implement the first phase of EU Artificial Intelligence Act

The Government submitted to Parliament its proposal for legislation supplementing the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) on 8 May 2025. It proposes to enact an act to monitor artificial intelligence systems and to amend the acts regarding market surveillance of products and enforcement of fines. The proposal concerns the first phase of the implementation of the AI Act.

Legislative amendments to boost integration of increasing electricity generation and consumption into electricity grids

On 8 May 2025, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal for acts amending the Electricity Market Act and sections 12 and 96 of the Natural Gas Market Act. The main objective of the proposal is to facilitate the integration of the increasing electricity generation and consumption loads into the transmission system and high-voltage distribution networks.
