Government decided that the process of Fennovoima’s construction licence application expires
On 9 June 2022, the Government decided that the process of Fennovoima Oy’s construction licence application for the Hanhikivi 1 nuclear power plant expires. The Government’s decision means that any administrative measures to process the application will cease.
The decision is based on Fennovoima’s announcement to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment on 24 May 2022 to cancel its construction licence application submitted to the Government.
The company submitted to the Ministry a construction licence application addressed to the Government in June 2015 and updated versions of it in August 2015 and last in 2021.
Fennovoima announced on 2 May 2022 that it has terminated the plant delivery contract concluded with Russian RAOS Project.
Parliament had approved an updated decision in principle on the construction of Fennovoima’s nuclear power plant on 5 December 2014. At that time, the original decision in principle adopted in 2010 was updated to make Russia’s Rosatom the nuclear power plant supplier and RAOS Voima Oy a minority owner of Fennovoima.
