Finland and Morocco have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on energy. The aim of the document is to develop technical and economic cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector and promote the access of Finnish companies to the Moroccan market.
EU’s Connecting Europe Facility grants EUR 127 million for a transmission line between Northern Finland and Sweden

On January 26 2022, the Energy programme committee of the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) decided to grant EUR 127 million for the implementation of a planned electricity transmission line between Northern Finland and Northern Sweden. The amount will be divided between Finland and Sweden. The financial support covers 50% of the project costs.
First offshore wind power research permits granted for Finland’s exclusive economic zone

The Government has granted research permits for three offshore wind power projects in Finland’s exclusive economic zone. Wpd Finland Oy was granted a permit on 20 January 2022 for the research area west of Jakobstad. OX2 Finland Oy received permits for two projects in the research areas west of Hailuoto and Jakobstad last week. Both companies’ permits offshore of Jakobstad concern the same area. The studies are set to be conducted this and next year.
Guarantee of origin certifies that energy purchased is renewable

The Government has submitted the Act on the guarantee of origin of energy to the President of the Republic for approval. The Act will make it easier for customers to influence the origin of the energy they are buying through a reliable system. With the guarantee of origin, consumers can trust that the energy marketed and sold to them as renewable is in fact produced from renewable energy sources. The Act will enter into force on 3 December 2021.
Energy and transport ministers to attend EU meetings in Slovenia on 22–23 September

The Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU will organise informal meetings of energy and transport ministers in Kranj on 22–23 September 2021. At the meeting of energy ministers, Finland will be represented by Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä and Minister of Transport and Communications Timo Harakka at the meeting of transport ministers.
Gender impact of the upcoming Climate and Energy Strategy assessed

Finland’s Climate and Energy Strategy, which will be completed towards the end of the year, has been assessed for its gender impact, in accordance with the Government Action Plan for Gender Equality. The report examines the different impacts that the proposed policy measures have on men and women.
Minister Lintilä to head three meetings of Nordic Council of Ministers on 16–17 September

As part of its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2021, Finland will organise the Council’s ministerial meetings. Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will chair three meetings of the Nordic Council of Ministers for Sustainable Growth. The meetings of ministers in charge of economic affairs and regions will take place on 16 September, while energy ministers will convene on 17 September. All meetings will be organised as hybrid meetings from Helsinki.
