Youth Mobility Agreement to enter into force in March allowing Finnish youth to travel and work in Canada for up to a year

The Youth Mobility Agreement allows Canadian and Finnish young people aged 18 to 35 to explore the other country through temporary work and travel. The agreement enters into force on 1 March 2024.

A new agreement on working holiday arrangements, adopted by the Finnish Parliament last autumn, will make it easier for young people aged 18–30 in the partner countries to familiarise themselves with the other country and work on a temporary basis to finance their stay.

The number of unemployed jobseekers decreased by 56,400. The number of new vacancies reported in June totalled 94,300. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies amounted to 189,700, which is 44,400 more than a year ago.

On 21 October 2021, the Government approved the EU regional and structural policy programme, Innovation and Skills in Finland 2021−2027, and decided to submit it to the European Commission. The programme supports industrial, energy, climate, innovation, education and employment policies as well as the work against exclusion and poverty.

New incentive to develop the Ohjaamo low-threshold services for young people

A new discretionary government grant will encourage municipalities to hire more social, health and education services experts at the Ohjaamo service points, where young people can seek help and guidance at a low threshold. The incentive model will strengthen the resources and multi-professional approach of the Ohjaamo service points, in accordance with the Government decision during the budget session in autumn 2020. The aim is for young people to receive more and better support for wellbeing, education and employment in one place.
