Commissioner Schmit met Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen and Minister of Social Affairs and Health Hanna Sarkkinen in Helsinki. They discussed issues related to the rights and livelihood of workers as well as homelessness.

Minister Hanna Sarkkinen and Commissioner Nicolas Schmit will discuss poverty reduction, promotion of mental health and income security. The meeting between Minister Tuula Haatainen and Commissioner Schmit will address current issues related to working life, such as the platform economy and dialogue between the social partners.

On 4 August 2022, the Government proposed that the President of the Republic approve the Act on Fixed-Term Fuel Subsidy for Transport Companies and, based on a resolution approved by Parliament, decided to study whether it would be possible to support operators using light fuel oil as well.

Investment aid for new energy technology and large demonstration projects aims to accelerate transition to future energy solutions. Support is granted for example for hydrogen projects.

On 2 June 2022, the Government proposed a new act on a fixed-term fuel subsidy, which would compensate transport companies for the sudden rise in fuel prices caused by Russia’s attack on Ukraine in February. The subsidy would apply to road transport of goods and passengers.
