Minister of Climate and the Environment Kai Mykkänen will attend the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on 27 September 2023. The Conference will be held in Vienna this week. Mykkänen will deliver Finland’s national statement at the Conference on Wednesday.

A week-long visit of an expert group from the International Energy Agency (IEA) to Finland ended on 24 October 2022. The group was in Finland to assess the energy policy implemented and future prospects. This time, the country review focused on electrification, clean energy production and the promotion of hydrogen use.

Finland releases 369,000 barrels of crude oil to the market from its emergency stockpiles

Finland will release 369,000 barrels of crude oil to the market from the emergency stockpiles maintained by the National Emergency Supply Agency. In this way Finland will participate in the unanimous decision made by the Governing Board of the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 1 April 2022, according to which IEA member countries will release oil products to the market from their emergency stocks. This collective action helps to provide stability to the oil market as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues.

The expert report published by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment on 18 February 2022 proposes that Finland participate in the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Human Spaceflight and Robotic Exploration Programme (E3P programme). The report also recommends stronger resourcing for the national space administration.
