The Government proposes to designate the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA) as the centralised national contact point in matters related to the EU’s Digital Markets Act. The FCCA would also assist the European Commission in inspections, for example.

A recent report describes the most significant bottlenecks in public procurement and puts forward concrete proposals for measures to eliminate them. Its aim is to promote economically, socially and ecologically sustainable procurements and well-functioning markets.

The EU competitiveness ministers will meet in Brussels on 29 September 2022 to discuss internal market and industrial policy issues. The ministers will debate the resilience of the EU’s internal market and ecological design of products. Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen will represent Finland at the meeting.

Mergers and acquisitions that exceed certain turnover thresholds must be notified to the Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (FCCA). The FCCA will intervene in the transaction if it is deemed to prevent effective competition in Finland. The Government proposes that the notification threshold for mergers and acquisitions be lowered under the Competition Act.

On 25 May 2022, the Government submitted a legislative proposal to Parliament that would temporarily lessen the obligation to lower the obligation to distribute renewable fuels in 2022. The objective of the proposal is to decrease the prices of transport fuels.
