The food industry has renewed its commitment to materials efficiency to promote more sustainable food production, distribution and consumption in 2022–2026. The Finnish Food and Drink Industries’ Federation, the Finnish Grocery Trade Association and the Finnish Hospitality Association MaRa have signed the commitment together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the Ministry of the Environment.

A working group that has examined the need to reform the nuclear energy legislation considers it necessary to launch a comprehensive legislative reform because of the ambiguity of the current legislation, changes in the operating environment of nuclear facilities and the expected developments. The working group submitted its final report to Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä on 27 August 2020.

Terrafame applies to Government for uranium recovery licence

On 31 October 2017, multi-metal company Terrafame Ltd delivered a licence application under the Nuclear Energy Act to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The application is addressed to the Government and is for the recovery of natural uranium obtained as a by-product of mining activities at Sotkamo. The main products from the mine are nickel and zinc.
