Finland has submitted an update of its National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) to the European Commission on 28 June 2024. The plan includes the national targets and policy measures decided so far to achieve the EU’s 2030 energy and climate targets.

Consultation round on amending the Co-operation Act begins

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will organise a consultation round on the amendments to the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings (hereinafter, the Co-operation Act) on 28 June−23 August 2024. The amendments concern raising the threshold for applying the Act and shortening the duration of change negotiations. The amendments were prepared in a tripartite working group that was not unanimous in its work.

Legislative changes to improve the status of foreign berry pickers sent out for comments

In May 2024, the Government outlined that the picking of wild berries is an activity based primarily on seasonal work in an employment relationship. The aim is to safeguard a sufficient level of income for foreign pickers and to improve monitoring to ensure the rights of pickers are realised. The sector will be brought into line with other sectors requiring seasonal labour.

266,400 unemployed jobseekers in May

Unemployed jobseekers at the end of May, a total of 266 400. This is 27 500 more than a year earlier.
The number of unemployed jobseekers rose by 27,500 from May of last year. The number of new vacancies reported totalled 46,100. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies in May was 93,700, which is 56,800 fewer than a year ago.
