Nordic labour ministers and ILO head to discuss platform economy and wellbeing at work in Helsinki

The transformation of work and new ways to work offer both challenges and opportunities for the Nordic labour market and workers’ wellbeing. The Nordic employment ministers will discuss these topics at a meeting organised by Finland as part of its Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers on 22–23 November 2021.

Nordic conference to share good practices for improving employment of people with disabilities

Facilitating the employment of persons with disabilities will be the focus of a virtual Nordic conference on Thursday 9 December. The conference will highlight new kinds of intermediate labour markets and successful experiences of employing people with disabilities through social enterprises. The agenda also includes good practices for supporting work ability for people with disabilities at workplaces.

The coronavirus pandemic had little effect on the physical and mental strain of work or work ability among all wage and salary earners. The level of stress or work exhaustion experienced also did not change significantly from 2019. However, there were clear differences between groups.

During the 2000s, the ability of the oldest employees to meet the physical and mental requirements of work has improved. Fewer employees aged 55-64 consider their work physically strenuous than before: 37% compared to 43% in 2002. Meanwhile a growing number of employees, especially the youngest, feel that the mental strain of work has increased.
