Baltic Sea states launch cooperation over labour and employment issues
Labour ministers and their representatives from the Baltic Sea states are meeting in Berlin on 15 June 2017 to discuss areas of common concern faced by their countries in the field of labour and employment. This is the first meeting of labour ministers within the framework of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).

The topics to be addressed at the meeting include labour mobility, demographic challenges, youth employment and integration of migrants. In their joint declaration, the Baltic Sea states undertake to work together on labour and employment issues, taking due account of the differences between the labour markets and economies of the various countries, and to follow the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as it applies to the Baltic Sea region.
The CBSS member countries are all the Baltic Sea littoral states (Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, Poland and Russia) and also Norway and Iceland. Finland will be represented at the meeting by senior officials.
The main priorities within the CBSS cooperation are regional identity, sustainability and prosperity, and safety and security. The CBSS convenes at ministerial and senior official levels and operates specialist working groups in different fields. The presidency of the CBSS in 2017 is held by Iceland.
