Municipalities may apply for additional financial support for the emergency resettlement of refugees in 2016 from the project Sylvia2 of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
The purpose of the additional support is to improve the municipalities' opportunities to prepare themselves for the provision of specialised services potentially required by the refugees who have been urgently resettled in the municipality. More places in the municipalities are needed for emergency resettlement cases: at the moment, 47 refugees selected for emergency resettlement in Finland in 2015-2016 are still waiting for a placement in a municipality.
To be able to apply for the additional support payable as discretionary government transfer, the municipality must agree with the Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment to accept a group of at least five refugees in 2016. The amount of the additional support is EUR 1,000 per person. The municipality may apply for the support after the refugees have moved to the municipality in question.
