The significance of domestic tourism increased during the COVID-19 pandemic in all of the Nordic countries. Taking the domestic market better into consideration strengthens the resilience and flexibility of the tourism industry, according to the report “Exploring Domestic Tourism in the Nordics”, which was published on 13 June 2023 and sheds light on the current situation and future outlook of domestic tourism in the Nordic countries.

Finland’s new Bioeconomy Strategy has been completed. The strategy aims to double the value added of bioeconomy in an ecologically, socially and economically sustainable manner and to make Finland climate neutral by 2035.
Government support for abrupt structural change situations in Jämsä and Utsjoki

On 16 December 2021, the Government has granted EUR 4 million for the abrupt structural change situation in Jämsä and EUR 300,000 for the situation in Utsjoki. The funding will support the sustainable growth and vitality of the regions.
New round of business cost support for companies in tourism, restaurant and event sectors

On 28 October 2021, the Government proposed amendments to the Act on Support for Business Costs. The new round of business cost support will be allocated to tourism, restaurant and event companies in particular. The support will be granted by the State Treasury. Applications would be accepted from December 2021.
Economic expectations of tourism companies far better than a year ago

The economic expectations of the tourism sector for the near future are much better than a year ago, but the outlook for the sector is still considered more negative than in other sectors. With respect to staff numbers the outlook is positive, but expectations in terms of providing employment are weaker than in the sectors on average.
