The Government is preparing amendments to the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration so that municipalities and wellbeing services counties would be reimbursed for the costs they incur for organising services to beneficiaries of temporary protection who have been granted a municipality of residence.
Russia cuts natural gas supplies to Finland – situation under control

On 20 May 2022, Gazprom Export informed the energy company Gasum Oy that natural gas deliveries to Finland under Gasum’s supply contract will be cut on 21 May 2022 at 7.00 am. The reason for the cut is that Finland has not agreed to pay in rubles for pipeline gas supplies.
More flexible EU state aid rules introduced during the COVID pandemic to end in phases

On 12 May 2022, the European Commission decided that the more flexible state aid rules that were introduced to mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic would largely end on 30 June 2022. The decision was based on the Commission’s assessment that the coronavirus pandemic no longer has a negative impact on the EU economy. However, the measures under the temporary state aid rules to support the recovery of the EU will remain in force until the end of 2022 and 2023.
EU energy ministers discuss the security of gas supply

The EU energy ministers will meet at an extraordinary Council meeting in Brussels on 2 May 2022. France has invited the Member States to discuss the impacts of Russia’s attack on the EU’s energy sector and to establish a situational picture among energy ministers concerning the recent developments in the security of gas supply. Minister of Economic Affairs Mika Lintilä will represent Finland.
