EUR 7.7 million for projects replacing coal energy – aid for non-combustion-based solutions in district heat generation

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has adopted the first decisions concerning investment aid for projects that rapidly phase out the use of coal energy. Aid was granted to four projects totalling EUR 7,715,880. The supported projects involve using non-combustion-based technologies in district heat generation.

Finland, together with Canada, the United Kingdom and over 20 other partner countries and states, have founded a global Powering Past Coal alliance to encourage governments, businesses and organisations to phase out traditional coal power. The alliance was launched at the UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn on Thursday 16 November 2017.
