The objective of the Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme launched in November 2020 was to prepare an action plan for Finland to speed up the introduction of AI technologies and promote the fourth industrial revolution. The final report of the Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme summarises the areas for development, objectives and measures that will help Finland ensure its success in the digital and green transitions.

From the seven Finnish candidates for European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH), the European Commission has selected four for further development. Hubs are service clusters that support SMEs in their digital renewal, in particular.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will fund the European Digital Innovation Hubs selected from Finland for the first three years. The hubs support businesses and the public sector in the utilisation and deployment of digital solutions.

The objective of the Artificial Intelligence 4.0 programme is that Finnish industry’s assets in 2030 are sustainability, capacity for renewal, technological leadership and solutions that enable increasing the carbon handprint. The interim report compiles the concrete objectives and proposed measures for achieving the artificial intelligence vision for 2030. 

Finland will make the Elements of AI online course available to EU citizens in 2020–2021. The objective is to train one per cent of EU citizens in the basics of artificial intelligence, thereby strengthening digital competence within the EU. The course will be published first in Latvia on 6 May 2020.
