Government proposal to Parliament: Support to restaurants for re-employment and compensation for restrictions imposed on activities
On 8 May 2020, the Government submitted to Parliament a proposal for an act on support for re-employment in the food and beverage service sector and on compensation for the restrictions on activities. The Government aims to bring the act into force as soon as possible.
The model proposed by the Government consists of two complementary elements. The first element is support for re-employment, which is provided to make companies better equipped to employ people when they resume normal business. The second element involves providing reasonable compensation, as required by Parliament, for the restrictions imposed on the food and beverage sector’s activities. This is to make companies better equipped to deal with inflexible costs.
The amount of support and compensation depends on the company. Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen presented the Government’s model at a press conference on 6 May 2020.
