The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment issued a statement on the EIA-programme on 25 April 2024 concerning an extension to the service life of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units in Eurajoki as well as an increase to their thermal output. The Ministry received from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj an environmental impact assessment programme on 5 January 2024.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has sent for comments an environmental impact assessment programme (EIA programme) concerning the continued operation of Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units in Eurajoki. TVO submitted the EIA programme to the Ministry in January. The deadline for submitting comments is 25 March 2024.

On 5 January 2024, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment received from Teollisuuden Voima Oyj an environmental impact assessment (EIA) programme referred to in the Act on the Environmental Impact Assessment Procedure. The programme concerns extending the service life of Olkiluoto 1 and Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant units located in the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant area in Eurajoki as well as increasing their thermal output.

Fortum granted licence to operate Loviisa power plant units until end of 2050

On 16 February 2023, the Government granted an operating licence to Fortum Power and Heat Oy (Fortum) for nuclear power plants units Loviisa 1 (LO1) and Loviisa 2 (LO2), in accordance with the Nuclear Energy Act. The new operating licence allows energy production at the nuclear power plant units until the end of 2050. The current operating licences for Loviisa expire on 31 December 2027 (LO1) and 31 December 2030 (LO2).
